Easy Applesauce Spice Cake Mix Recipe
Why You’ll Love This Easy Applesauce Spice Cake Mix Recipe
This applesauce cake is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make. Made with just a few ingredients and spices, it’s
a delicious treat for the whole family. I found this recipe in one of the very old cooking books my grandma passed
down to me. The book itself is so old that the pages have turned a light brown and the print is fading a bit. The original
recipe calls for butter in the cake, but I have tried replacing the butter with both applesauce and greek yogurt with a lot
of success.
Ingredients Needed to Make the Applesauce Cake
Flour – 1 1/2 cup white all purpose flour will work here.
Egg – 1 egg
Sugar – 1 cup of cane sugar
Butter – 1/2 cup. You can use butter or substitute butter with 1/4 cup greek yogurt. I used fat free, and it turned out great. You can also substitute butter for 1/2 cup applesauce. The recipe already calls for 1 cup of applesauce, so you would add 1 1/2 cups applesauce instead, and not the butter.
Applesauce – 1 cup of applesauce. If substituting butter, use 1 1/2 cup applesauce.
Baking soda – 1 tsp.
Spices: 1/2 tsp. allspice, 1/2 tsp. clove, and 1 tsp cinnamon
Raisins or Walnuts: 1 cup. Personally, I do not add raisins to my applesauce cake, but I know a lot of people like added raisins.

Recipe Substitutions
Flour – I used regular white flour for this recipe. If you would like to add a bit of nutrition to your flour, try adding whole
wheat flour. You can substitute 3/4 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup regular white flour. HERE is more information on
the different flours you can use for baking. Whole wheat flour has more protein in it, so do not substitute whole wheat
flour 1:1.
Optional Mix-ins
I prefer this applesauce cake with walnuts, but my family does not like nuts in of the bread or cakes that I make, so I
prefer this particular cake without any add ins. I do know plenty of people that prefer to add raisins in this cake.
