TEACHING THE ALPHABET
The first step in teaching a child to read is to teach the letters of the alphabet. An important predictor of reading achievement is to be able to easily identify the letters! Download and print the Free Alphabet and Picture Match to introduce the alphabet and their sounds.
HOW TO USE THE ALPHABET AND PICTURE MATCH
- Print the Alphabet and Picture Match Game.
- Laminate the circular pictures and blank board. THIS is my favorite laminator.
- Cut out the circular pieces with pictures.
- Using velcro dots, place one on the back of each circular picture and under each letter on the board.
- Play the game! Depending on the level of the child, you can work on identifying letters or work on identifying letter sounds. For example, my 3 year old is working on recognizing letters, so I tell him, “Mitten starts with the letter M, can you find the letter M and match the mitten?”
